We are now going to be launching the Wolverhampton Shared Lives Scheme to the wider public in the New Year.
We are going to be holding two events on Monday 20th January 2014 – one in the morning from 10 to 12 and one in the afternoon from 1 to 3 at Action4Independence, Albert Road, Wolverhampton, WV6OAF.
The two sessions will contain exactly the same information and so people are just requested to choose one of the sessions to attend.
I would be very grateful if you could now start to promote these public events with the staff and groups that you come into contact with.
We will be running a formal press launch early in the New Year so please look out for further details in the New Year.
For your information, Shared Lives is a form of support where vulnerable adults live with a specially recruited and trained carer and their family in their home or as part of a long or short term placement. The service operates in a similar way to a foster care placement, but is specifically designed for adults. Shared Lives in Wolverhampton will give increased choice and improved outcomes to those assessed as requiring support and provide a cost effective alternative to residential care. In Wolverhampton, we are working in partnership with PSS (Person Shaped Support) to develop Shared Lives across the City. The Shared Lives Scheme within Wolverhampton will initially support people who have a learning disability, mental health needs and/or physical and sensory impairment aged from 18 to 64. The service focus is on choice and independence. Individuals are encouraged to get involved in the decision of where they live and PSS plan the recruitment and placements carefully, so that both the carer and person using the service feel happy before the placements are made.
