LGBT630x210Presentation of Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service LGBT Network Wolverhampton volunteers have been recognised for their commitment and dedication supporting local LGB and T people with the 2014 Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This prestigious award is the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK; it is the MBE for volunteer groups. Awards are made to recognise and reward excellence in voluntary activities, given for outstanding achievement by groups of volunteers who regularly devote their time to helping others in the community, improving the quality of life and opportunity for others and providing an outstanding service. Martha Bishop, General Manager said she was thrilled that the volunteers who regularly give up their time to support the LGBT community had been recognised, “It’s thanks to all the volunteers we can provide all our services, activities and events, making a real difference to LGBT people, 5 people in the last year have said they haven’t committed suicide because of the support received, we offer counselling, advocacy, support to victims of Hate Crime and we organise the annual PRIDE event with almost 2,000 people attending. The volunteers are truly amazing and we couldn’t do it without them”. Chair, Pat McArdle said ‘We are extremely delighted to receive the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This is well-deserved recognition for the hundreds of volunteers who have been instrumental in contributing so much to the LGBT network and wider community in Wolverhampton. They have made a real difference and clearly show how volunteering can benefit our communities’. Our Patron Peter Tatchell sent his congratulations to the volunteers “Congratulations to LGBT Network Wolverhampton volunteers on being honoured with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This esteemed tribute is much deserved recognition of the important work done in support of the local LGBT community. It is shows that local authority funding gets results worthy of high commendation.”
