In an unexpected decision by the European Court, Obesity has been ruled as a disability.

This will have an impact on how employers treat their obese staff. The ruling states that those staff with significant obesity may be treated as disabled, which means they may have a right to reasonable adjustments like special chairs and equipment, change of duties or hours etc.

It is likely that the extent of the effect of this ruling in Britain will be unclear, until there are some test cases of severely obese people taking a case against their employer.
