The Nazis killed over 300,000 disabled people as part of their plan for perfect (Aryan) Germans. Killing disabled people in care homes and hospitals was the first act of mass murder of the Nazi regime, bent on “purifying” the German population of undesirables. From 1941 until the end of the war, disabled people were also killed by starving them, and denying them medicines.   This often overlooked in statistics, speeches and documentaries about the Nazi crimes against humanity, but this week, Berlin is putting this right. They will be unveiling a memorial to commemorate the disabled victims of Nazi atrocities.
