R U GOING TO C JUBA?!
JUBA, THE INIMITABLE JUBA!!
JUBA, IMMORTALISED BY BOZ!!!
JUBA, THE BEST DANCER LIVING!!!!
JUBA, THE ONLY YOUTH OF COLOUR EVER BEFORE THE PUBLIC!!!!!
Master Juba: The Wonder of the World is a potent mix of rhythm and words: a frenzy of beats, a call and a song, improvised tap and the heart of the drum. Master Juba is an urgent visceral performance that recounts the amazing tale of Juba, the Greatest Dancer who ever lived, the 8th Wonder of the World.
The first half of the show is a light hearted participatory spoken word sequence that plays with words, rhythms and sound to explore our “Cultural Routes” and how our pasts entwine to create the culturally diverse communities we all live in today.
In the second half, having shared our stories we tell you another, as the company use song, dance, sign and drumming to tell the astonishing story of William Henry Lane: Master Juba the man who invented tap, the first black man to appear as himself on a public stage, the man who changed the world.
