The Legal Aid Agency have confirmed that from 3 November 2014 both clients coming into mediation will be eligible for a free assessment and a free first mediation session if one party is eligible for legal aid.
This is very good news for clients who are not eligible in their own right for help with mediation fees.
Clients may be able to discuss issues such as children’s arrangements or child support in one session and where the matter is more complicated and additional sessions are required (e.g. property & finance on divorce/separation) this additional help will significantly decrease the overall cost of mediation. Legal Aid for mediation does not have to be paid back.
It may also help persuade a reluctant ex partner to consider mediation if they know that they may get help with the fees, so please keep those referrals coming either by encouraging a client to fill in the referral form on the website, e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or telephoning 01827 314020. We are happy to talk them through what they need to do and the information we require from them.
