The Council Community Initiatives Team want you to know about this excellent opportunity:

Special Initiative – Retraining existing independent Advice Agency caseworkers in Housing Law skills

The Child Poverty Task & Finish Group at the Council has authorized the use of underspent funds to purchase an intensive 4 day Housing Law Foundation Course from national experts Shelter. 16 existing quality marked caseworkers from the city’s agencies (for example, existing Debt or Welfare Rights caseworkers) can be trained for free. This is to ensure that a greater skills base is created in the city to advise local people, and enables local advice agencies to prepare their existing workforces for an anticipated increase in serious cases of housing need in the years ahead. Currently there are only 3 specialist help level Housing Law practitioners in the city, all at the CAB.

The opportunity:

The course will be run at the CAB on August 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th from 9am to 4pm. To enquire about this initiative, or nominate an existing caseworker, please email:

sue.walduck@wcabx.org or telephone 01902 572199

The requirements:

1)    Participants must be existing experienced advice caseworkers – the level of tuition and knowledge expected will assume such basic advice knowledge

2)    The agency they work in must be quality marked and be committed to supplying updated texts to sustain casework

3)    The agency must be serving clients with Housing Law enquiries

Places are limited, and every participant is intended to become an effective practitioner after training.
