Independent research has shown us that disabled people are the worst affected by the bedroom tax and by welfare reform. But disabled students are likely to pushed out of higher education opportunities, if the coalition Government has its way.
Education Minister David Willets has announced the Government’s intention to Disabled Students’ Allowances(DSA), from September 2015 – DSAs help disabled students to study by providing support like Sign Language Interpreters, accessible transport, accessible computer software etc if the disabled student needs it in order to study alongside his or her non-disabled peers.
Without this funding degrees and post graduate study will be effectively barred to many disabled people.
Willets calls this a modernisation, but this kind of apartheid sets disabled people back a century, and denies an equal right to education.
