Benefits changes – Spring 2020 budget

These are the Governments’s benefit changes as outlined in the March 11th 2020.
They will affect disabled people and others.

Increased amount given to councils for council tax relief for economically vulnerable people.

Disabled people who are awarded PIP (Personal Independence Payment) will now have a minimum award of 18 months before they have to reclaim and be assessed again.

From October 2021, people who have had an advance payment on their Universal Credit will now have 24 months to pay back the money.

People moving from Severe Disability Premium to Universal Credit will have increased transitional payments but the amount has not been announced.

Child Benefit will no longer be available to people whose children are living overseas.
