Become a councillor and make change

Tuesday, December 11, 2018 | News

A fund is being set up to help disabled people who want to become Councillors. There are very few councillors avccros the country who are disabled people.

Each disabled person running to be a councillor, police commissioner, or Mayor will be able to get up around £4,000  in grants. The money must be used to pay for reasonable adjustments like accessible transport, BSL interpreters, braille and screen reader software, and other campaign costs associated with their impairments.

This support isn’t a new thing. It was available right up until the Tory Government got rid of it 3 years ago.

They seem to be rather keen on cutting all services and benefits for disabled people, so think about standing for office and telling decision makers what has change.
