aldaI am delighted to invite you, members, service users and representatives of your organisation to attend an exciting conference which is being organised by Wolverhampton City Council and Partner Organisations on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th May 2013 in Wolverhampton.

vitCouncillor Roger Lawrence, Leader of Wolverhampton City Council and Treasurer of ALDA said “I am looking forward to welcoming delegates to this conference; it will allow our partners to showcase the contribution made by volunteers to enriching the lives of the citizens of Wolverhampton.  Volunteering is important as it benefits both the community and the volunteer themselves, often leading to training and employment.”

The Conference will be delivered in co-operation with the Association of Local Democracy Agencies (ALDA) under the auspices of the ‘Very Important Twinning, Volunteering in Towns (VIT) Project’ which is financed by the European Commission to address issues in regard to volunteering and democracy in an the enlarged European community.

The conference will focus upon “Volunteers, Voluntary Organisations and Localism – Promoting community sustainability & engagement”. It will be delivered by the City Council in partnership with H.M. Governments Cabinet Office, the University of Wolverhampton and key Voluntary Sector Partners in the City: Access to Business, Base 25, Wolverhampton Voluntary Sector Council, The Haven, Bilston Resource Centre, TLC College and the Refugee & Migrant Centre . The conference will be delivered in English with translation by volunteers, available upon request.

We have capacity for just 60 delegates at the free two day event and want to ensure that people from EU member countries plus Croatia, Albania and Macedonia are encouraged to attend.  We hope to welcome international volunteers, who are already on placement in the City and international students from the University of Wolverhampton. We know there are large numbers of people from the E U, and beyond, living and working in the West Midlands who are already involved in local regional, national and international voluntary organisations. Can you please ensure this conference invitation reaches them.

Participation in the conference/workshops is for free and lunch will be provided. On the 9th May, delegates are invited to attend a reception hosted by the Mayor of Wolverhampton.
