Mind Out is a LGBT mental health peer support group – mental health peer support
has been defined as the help and support that people with lived experience of a
mental illness are able to give each other. This support is based on shared personal
experience and empathy. The support is also mutually offered and is reciprocal,
allowing peers to benefit from the support whether they are giving or receiving it.
“Peer support is a system of giving and receiving help founded on the key principles
of respect, shared responsibility, and mutual agreement of what is helpful”.
(Mead, 2003)
