Ramps

Ramps help wheelchair users and others to get into a building where level access cannot be achieved. Externally they are a means of managing changes of levels.

Ramps should not be so steep or long that they are unuseable.

Part M states that in building a ramp you should aim for a gradient of 1:20.

this can not allways be achieved, and a gradient of 1:12 is a steepest manageable gradient that is still functional.

Ramps need to be 1000m wide, and have handrails on both sides that are grounded and continuous, and made of a material that is easy to hold and grip in a variety of weather conditions.
